On Discipline and Taming the Mind

I can’t find enough leather
to cover the surface of the earth,
but leather on the soles of my shoes
is the same as covering the earth.

Likewise it’s not possible for me
to restrain the external course of things,
but should I restrain my mind
what need is there to restrain all else?
